Austin J4 Carefree

Postby J4 Carefree » November 21st, 2013, 8:08 pm

Hi everyone! :)
I have just joined the forum and hope this is the best place to post some pictures of my recently purchased Austin J4 Carefree?
She is a 1962 with full length "pop top" and was converted by "Kenex" when new.
I have trawled the internet looking for information on Kenex Carefree's and have not really managed to dig up that much yet, so any information anyone has would be gratefully received!
She has some bodywork issue's, but hopefully nothing too serious hiding under there!
Anyway, here she is.....

Hi and welcome to the forum.
That is a cracking and very very rare van you have there :D
Martin is the man who will have the info on your Carefree and I am sure he will be along very soon!
Still lurking in the lay bys.

Thanks for the welcome and your kind comments :)
I guessed that there couldn't be many like her left when I bought her, and looking at the info I can find online, she is the only J4 Carefree that I have come across so far.
I have read all about the Thames one with great interest along with other J4 campers and was wondering if any other survivors were known to the club?
Eagerly awaiting my membership details to come through at the moment! :D

Great to see such a rare camper joining our ranks; welcome on board John. Not many Kenex conversions around now, as you state, there is a Thames model being restored and I believe that there are a couple of Bedford CA examples about and at least one Standard Atlas, but they are very thin on the ground now.
Hope you enjoy this picture taken from a Kenex brochure, think they were attempting to sell the Kenex Atlas, not swimwear!

Many thanks for the warm welcome but my name is not John, its Carlo ;)
Thanks also for sharing the Kenex picture. I have only found one Kenex advert with a J4 in so far! I have dug it out, scanned it and posted it for all to enjoy :)

Sorry Carlo, I got you mixed up with someone who has recently joined the club with a Standard Atlas Kenex :o
